The Communications department supports individual homes and corporate departments with internal and external communication strategies and initiatives, helping to raise the profile of Chartwell and protect the reputation of its residences. We produce a variety of communications materials for all audiences and stakeholders, including messaging, press releases, internal memos, website and blog content, social media content, newsletters, conferences, videos, etc. We also provide on-going issues management support, liaison with media, conduct daily media monitoring (including social media platforms, Google, Indeed, Glassdoor), as well as measure and report the effectiveness of our programs. The Communications department also manages translation for all national and corporate requirements, as well as produces an internal weekly publication. In addition, we provide support to our national charitable organization, The Chartwell Foundation.

 

Key Activities for Corporate Communication:

 

  • Conduct daily media monitoring via Meltwater and other online platforms (Google, Indeed, Glassdoor) for reputational risk issues, draft appropriate responses and support the senior manager is escalation of high risk reviews
  • Support the department with content generation and management of SharePoint sites for internal partners and the Communications team
  • Media Relations Points (MRP) System – Assist with data entry of media coverage each week for quarterly reporting purposes
  • Assist with the creation of media lists and conduct media outreach, as required, for the Chartwell Foundation wish stories, local residence event outreach, acquisitions and/or development news, other newsworthy stories, as assigned by a senior leader
  • Support copyrighting projects like website landing pages, collateral, storytelling, and other projects, as assigned
  • Assist in the editing/reviewing of a variety of communication materials including memos, bylines, weekly Communiqué, press releases, letters from President & CEO, speaking notes, etc.
  • Extract and write stories via “Share Your Stories” for various internal and external publications
  • Other duties, as assigned by the communications department

 

Key Activities for Corporate Communiqué (weekly internal publication):

 

  • Responsible for daily monitoring of the communication department inbox and coordinating Chartwell’s weekly bilingual corporate communication publication, Communiqué
  • Coordinate, edit and format memos for this weekly internal publication (English version)
  • Download and process all the requests for the Communiqué and work with internal contributors to clarify data and information, as needed
  • Work closely with the Translation team to ensure the publication is coordinated in English and French in a timely and accurate manner, including approval by the Senior Executive Committee

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma of a Communications/Public Relations post-graduate program
  • 2-3 years’ work experience in a communications role or similar field would be ideal

 

Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Copywriting, media relations and SharePoint experience
  • Skilled writer with ability to produce a variety of content for different platforms
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and prioritization of work to manage timelines/deadlines
  • An exceptional command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and editing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications)
  • Ability to take direction and work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Great collaborator focused on client service excellence
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
